active start
The Active Start gymnastics program is the ideal start to physical activity for pre-school aged children. Athletes progress at their own rate and are identified by stage of development rather than age. Equipment is adapted for age and development and athletes are introduced to activities and skills which develop social, physical and cognitive literacy.
Social Qualities
Athletes develop self-confidence, self-expression and group social skills as well as accepting instruction from adults and leaders outside of the home.
Cognitive Qualities
Gymnastics allows for the development of patterning, spatial awareness and problem solving as athletes are encouraged to explore space and equipment in a safe manner.
Physical Qualities
Motor qualities of agility, balance and co-ordination are developed through the learning of Fundamental Movement Patterns and Gross Motor Skills. The Fundamental Movement Patterns outlined by Gymnastics Canada include Landings, Static Positions, Locomotions, Rotations, Swings, Springs and Object Manipulation. Gross Motor Skills include running, jumping, climbing, rolling, twisting and catching.
